ALEXANDER (Northern) is to evaluate a front-engined Volvo B57 single-deck bus and a midenginecl Dennis Lancet in a bid to find a replacement for its ageing fleet of Ford R-Series.
Both buses will have Alexander single-deck bodywork and Allison automatic transmission. The Volvo will be powered by the TD70 turbocharged engine as used in the Ailsa double decker. The Dennis — exhibited in chassis form at the Brighton Coach Rally — has a naturally aspirated Perkins V8 540.
