The Actress presence is strengthening in the marketplace'
Barrie Travis is the used valuation editor at CAP. "As a second-hand buy the Actros is a good truck," he says. "You don't get much wrong with them and their presence is strengthening in the marketplace."
"The Mercedes is as economical as any truck," he adds. It sits among the best with fuel consumption. In terms of residual value the Mk2 Actros is about midway, with Daf and Scania above and Renault and Iveco below. Mercedes is doing well with ex-lease trucks, giving them a second life.
"Loyalty is a dead duck now big fleets buy on price and the Actress profile is rising. People like the MegaSpace version, and the versions with the more luxurious trim options are better received by drivers.
"On small fleets, driver acceptability and retention are important and the Actros meets this demand."
Travis believes that buyers who go for a higher spec are likely to get their money back when it is time to sell: "A 2003-registered 6x2 2546 with 433,000km on an 03 plate recently went for £21,500, which is reasonable."
