AMAJOR reorganization of bus services within the capital is understood to be under consideration by the London Transport Board, and it is expected that plans for the future pattern of services will be published in the not-too-distant future. Whatever plans are announced—and a "revolutionary" change in the style and manning of services has been suggested as a distinct possibility —London Transport is pressing ahead with the extension of one-man bus services.
In order to implement these extensions, the Board is in the market for 150 new singledecker buses. Tenders called for include 25 more buses of the Red Arrow type and another 61 buses of the front-entrance, central-exit pattern similar to the nine 45seat XMBs now in experimental service in the country bus area. The balance of 64 buses will be made up of "conventional" single-deckers of 36 ft. overall length with a single entrance/exit at the front.
