THE group transport manager of Allied Farm Foods is a man of many parts, I learn. As well as coping with several hundred vehicles (of which Buxted Chicken, referred to elsewhere in this issue, is but a part) John Roberts is a cartoonist of no mean ability, and also a film maker in a small way.
His cartooning talents are directed mainly to road safety ends, and he has created a fearsome driver character called Enoch, who does all the things Pilot Officer Prune used to do, only more so. It is Enoch who "pushes his wagon into the corners like a Mini"— and goes straight on through the hedge, and who thinks proper roping and sheeting are sissy occupations.
The film making is something of a hobby, and is directed mainly at recording stages of development of the vehicles in which he has a personal interest.
Some readers may remember John Roberts as one of the central figures in an article by colleague Paul Brockington about reorganization of a haulage fleet a year or two ago in COMMERCIAL MOTOR.
