• A new one-person refuse collector and compactor designed by Schmidt UK and TransTrend is based on the Volkswagen 1146.
With a side-mounted wheelie bin lift, the LitterPress compacts refuse against the reinforced rear doors with a hydraulic barrier at a ratio of three to one. A kerbweight of 3.3 tonnes means more than a tonne of refuse can be taken.
Hydraulic systems are operated by a power take-off from the gearbox of the 2.5TDI engined unit, Volkswagen says the collector is ideal
for city centres where bins need to be emptied often and rural areas where larger vehicles are not cost-effective.
The UtterPress can be ordered through Volkswagen Van Centres, which also hold parts and offer servicing and maintenance.
