The Pontins business consists of five holiday parks at Brean Sands in Somerset, Prestatyn in North Wales, Southport in Lancashire, Lowestoft in Suffolk and Camber Sands in Sussex.
It was founded in 1946 by Fred Pontin, who bought the first site at Breen Sands, which was a former US Army base, and then expanded his empire. The company has been bought and sold by various owners since the late 1970s including betting group Coral.
Pontins is currently owned by Ocean Parcs, which acquired the business for CLIem in 2008 through a consortium headed by former boss Graham Parr.
The parks attract between 750,000 and 1,000,000 visitors a year. and the supply chain must support three standards of accommodation and several types of catering including restaurants, pizza and burger bars, hot dog stalls, fish and chip shops and candy floss stalls. Entertainment is co-ordinated by its Bluecoats, who i• one time or another have included Shane Ritchie, Bobby Davro and Lee Mack.
