A NEW quick-release coupling suitable for hydraulic and pneumatic hoses was exhibited at the Smithfield Show last week.
Designed by Primus-Sievert, a Swedish company, the Primus coupling is being imported and manufactured by Caradoc Engineering (Hereford) Ltd. The coupling joint is made by pressing the end fitting of the hose into the adaptor and snapping a detachable, spring loaded clip in place to lock and secure it. To release the coupling, a screwdriver or other suitable tool is used to lever off the spring clip, as shown in the photograph.
The main advantages of the new coupling are that it is quick and easy to fit and release and is less bulky than conventional quick-release couplings.
Caradoc Engineering says the Primus can withstand the same line pressures as other conventional couplings.
While the new coupling is designed mainly for use on plant and agricultural equipment, there are obviously a number of potential applications for it on commercial vehicles.
