• A Polish truck driver who was involved in an accident in which an 84-year-old pedestrian was killed has been allowed to return to Poland to await his trial.
Stanislaw Kwiatkowski pleaded not guilty to driving without due care and attention and to having defective brakes when he appeared before Worley magistrates last week. He was allowed to return to Poland after his employers put up a surety of £1 ,000.
The dead woman apparently walked out in front of Kwiatkowski's truck after he stopped to decide if it would get under a low bridge. His nearside driving position might have been a factor in the incident.
