by Charles Young • These are the first pictures of Renault's replacement for its Master panel van range, which is due to go on sale at the beginning of 1998.
There are significant changes from the previous model: a redesigned exterior features a body-coloured grille, wide bumper and new 1.1m-wide fullheight side loading door. The front and rear tracks have also been enlarged. The interior incorporates fea tures from Renault's passenger cars.
The new Master range comprises 12 variants with a choice of two engines, three lengths (4.89-5.89m), and three
roof heights (2.24-2.71m), giving a load-volume range of 8-13.9m3 and payloads from 1,0001,700kg.
Platform-cabs and chassiscabs will be offered and there are also plans to produce window vans and chassis-cowls.
Renault's Master replacement forms phase two of the relaunch of its CV range. The Extra highcube {CM 5-11 June) is due by the end of this year while a new compact panel van, developed jointly with Vauxhall, is expected to follow in 2000.
