• From 1 July livestock hauliers who persistently break animal welfare regulations will be put out of business, warns Agriculture Minister Dr Jack Cunningham. New regulations will implement EU rules on animal transport. All staff involved in the transport of livestock must have training or experience to ensure animals are handled properly during transport. The new rules will: iD Set maximum journey and rest times for different species (the current maximum journey time for cattle, sheep, pigs and goats is eight hours); :t Strengthen the rules requirinc exporters to file and aci-iere to journey plans; J Keep existing GB rules on livestock vehicle standards in place, pending EU measures.
