A t the Irish Road Haulage Association's Saturday dinner/dance at its conference in Limerick, Transport Minister Noel Tracy raised the biggest cheer of the evening when he interrupted his speech to announce Ireland had won the Eurovision Song Contest for the third consecutive year.
He then went on to announce a number of concessions granted by the Government to Irish hauliers, including an extension of international licences from three years to five.
Meanwhile out on the golf course all was not as it should be. At an afternoon tournament a delegate swinging at the ball found that his club left his hand to land on the roof of the nearby Clare Inn. What you might call a roof in one. And who was the delegate from a UK firm who insisted on calling Britain the "mainland"? Best draw a veil over that one.
