MORE AND more operators are paying for used trucks by cheque or banker's draft rather than using finance. That's the experience of independent dealer Peter Hassan of Eurowise Truck & Van.
"Only four out of the 25 trucks we've sold in recent weeks have been financed," he reports.
Is it simply the case that it's the finance packages Eurowise is putting together that hauliers don't like, and they're borrowing the money to buy their trucks elsewhere?
"No," Hassan replies."If that were the case we'd be asked to invoice the lender concerned for the vehicles, and that's not happening. Customers seem to be using cash they've accumulated."
Not all dealers are finding this to be the case however."The majority of our customers still buy on finance," says Steve Smith of independent dealers Smith Brothers.
