• As a preliminary to the ban on overnight parking of over 2+-ton unladen weight lorries in the streets of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, which comes into force on November 15, six traffic wardens began work on Monday night--distributing advisory notices.
This is the first time traffic wardens have been employed on night duties, and the first time they have used walkie-talkie sets for operational purposes.
The Tower Hamlets group has three warden supervisors and three ordinary wardens—all volunteers for the job—and they are working a rota system, the duty shift consisting of one supervisor and one warden patrolling in a minibus.
Scotland Yard said on Monday that the wardens were providing a special service for the residents and, if successful, the scheme may be extendedto other parts of London.
