A POWERFUL alliance of transport trade unions and consumer interests is to mount a major publicity campaign in London and the Home Counties.
The campaign title: "Save Our Public Transport Services" indicates more than a concern for the employees of the public transport services in London.
The intention is to draw into the campaign, community organisations and individual commuters with the intention of modifying Government policies, with more financial support for public transport.
Mr Jim Daly, chairman of the Greater London Council's transport committee, said the majority party of the GLC fully supported the campaign. The organisers were not seeking confrontation with Government but they were greatly concerned with Government decisions to cut revenue support and investment levels so drastically as to threaten the extent and quality of public transport.
