ENGINE POWER outputs at the top end of the weight range are unlikely to rise substantially in the future according to Dr Heinz Hahn, head of technical operations at Iveco.
Dr Hahn told CM that the trend is towards improving the overall economy, with power outputs of 400hp and above being unnecessary except for specialist applications.
In the UK it is a different matter, according to Dr Hahn, because vehicles have traditionally been underpowered in European terms owing to the lower gross weight limits.
He suggested that the UK will see a noticeable increase in power output as more vehicles are registered for 38 tonnes gcw.
Dr Hahn stressed that speed range and torque rise were more important than power.
