• A Perthshire haulier's holiday idea for truck and trailer wheel spray control has been "highly commended" at last month's John Logie Baird Awards for Innovation.
Quick Wing, which has attracted interest from MercedesBenz UK, is the invention of George Matthew, managing director of Strathearn Fodder in Muthill, and already prototypes are in use. lie's patented the idea and now wants to sell it to a manufacturer.
Each panel envelopes about three-quarters of a wheel, accepts spray suppression material and can be removed easily to access the tyre, brakes or suspension.
Matthew is also designing a moving trailer roof that will cut aerodynamic drag.
