• Animal rights activists attacked four trucks at a meat market in Brighton last week, in what is feared to be the start of a new phase in the Animal Liberation Front's campaign.
At least £150,000 worth of fire damage was done to the reefers belonging to meat wholesaler RP Meats while they were parked up overnight last Saturday. No-one was hurt in the attack, in which eight gas cylinders exploded.
RP Meats managing director Robin Powell says: "I'm sickened by what has happened but it is not going to put us out of business. We have a lot of support in the industry and replacement vehicles will be found."
The company suffered a similar attack 10 years ago.
A spokesman for the Animal Liberation Front says he is confident the ALE was involved and that more attacks are likely while one of its members is on a hunger strike in prison.
