L1AULIERS have been presented with an excellent opportunity 1 Ito get to effective grips with a particularly difficult cost problem —that caused by unreasonable tumround delays—with the joint campaign by the Road Haulage Association and British Road Services. This campaign, as exclusively announced by The Commercial Motor" last week, is explained in detail on page 5.
The privately owned and State-owned sectors of haulage have co-operated on a number of matters in the past; but never with such emphasis or so publicly. It is a very good thing that they now do so. Perhaps this occasion will be the forerunner of more such joint public approaches to mutual problems. Although not numerically correct, the general public nonetheless tend to regard the R.H.A. and B.R.S. as each representing half the country's haulage industry. Presumably they also, therefore, regard twice as seriously a joint campaign by the two bodies.
This particular campaign aims at educating the user of road haulage in the cost of unnecessary delays to vehiclgs in docks and factories. Hauliers and B.R.S. staff must get firmly behind the campaign. Tied as it is to National Productivity Year, the campaign has an excellent chance of really putting the haulage case. It would be foolish to do other than support it wholeheartedly.
