Two-speed Drills

THREE new double-insulated two

speed drills, have been announced by Black and Decker, Ltd., Harmondsworth, Middx. The new tools are the 8L/2R 5/16 in. drill with keyless chuck (price £26 10s.), the 15/2V No. 1 Morse Taper 35/64 in. drill (price £42 10s.) and the 32/2V No. 3 Morse Taper 11 in. drill (price £53). The sizes quoted indicate the maximum size holes able to be drilled in steel.

On-load speeds of the drills are: the 8L/2R, 500 and 1.120 r.p.m.; the 15/2V, 200 and 320 r.p.m.; and the 32/2V, 114 and 200 r.p.m.

Also introduced are two stands for use with these drills: the SU/1 for model 81_,/2R and the SU/2 for model 15/2V.

Improved Coupling Gear

LAST-MINUTE addition to the exhibits of the Adrolic Engineering Co., Ltd.. at the Commercial Motor Show was a semi-trailer fifth-wheel coupling having six P.T.F.E. pads incorporated in the bearing face. The unit was developed by Merriworth Engineering Co., Ltd., Dartford. Kent, who are co-operating with Adrolic in its production.

Merriworth have carried out extensive tests on the application of P.T.F.E, as a bearing material on fifth-wheel couplings and although the new design is to be sold for £135 compared with £70 for a standard model (both figures are net), the extra life evident from the tests will repay the additional cost.

Also shown by Adrolic was a two-speed landing gear designed and made by Merriworth for them. This model costs £85 compared with £48 for the standard Adrolic single-speed unit.

Spot and Fog Lamps

ANEW range of spot and fog lamps made from stainless steel has been introduced by Wipac Group Sales, Ltd., London Road, Buckingham.

Named the Mini-Major, the lamps are available for 6-v. and 12v. systems and, including pre-focus bulb, lead and connectors, cost £2 8s. 6d. each. The fog lamp is normally equipped with a fluted amber lens but is also available with a clear fluted lens and a cadmium yellow bulb; this version retails at £2 13s,

Keeping Injectors Clean

Pl.A FUEL additive claimed to reduce the possibility of the emission of black smoke from the exhaust of a diesel engine is now available from Edward Joy and Sons, Ltd., Filtrate Works, Leeds, 10.

Known as Clenjet, the chemical is intended to be mixed in very small quantities with the fuel and when used is claimed to clean dirty fuel-injector jets and keep them clean. In this way one of the possible causes of smoking is eliminated.
