• Ryder has based its 150strong Dairy Crest Fleet on a £1.5m environmentally friendly site in Fenstanton which has underground tanks to catch the run-off From any fuel or milk spillages as the site is surrounded by lakes.
• CTR has sold 312 trailers to Argos with a management and maintenance agreement that allows Argos to park up to 250 trailers at CTR's Nuneaton depot until January 1998.
• United Transport has won petrol, milk and chocolate distribution contracts worth £10m in deals which involve transferring up to 200 drivers and more than 100 trucks. The contracts are with Fina, Milk Marque and S&A tesme-Callebaut.
• Whitbread has opened a multi-million-pound distribution centre in Reading in partnership with Exel Logistics.
• Hobart has appointed Swift Transport Services to handle national distribution of its commercial catering equipment. Swift is making 125 deliveries a week as well as delivering full-load collections from Hol3art's Barnstaple factory to Peterborough.
• Irish Ferries has commissioned the building of Europe's largest car ferry: a 30,000-tonne superferry capable of carrying 2,200 passengers between Holyhead and Dublin.
