• Electric vehicle manufacturer John Bradshaw has launched its latest batterypowered light commercial vehicle. The FB3 offers a payload of two or three tonnes and a choice of bodies. The load platform measures 2.2m long and 1.25m wide; it is available as an open, closed or tipping body. Power comes from a 7.0hp (5.2kW) motor giving a top speed of 17km/h. Prices start from around 211,500 (ex-VAT).
• Toyota has signed a licence option with Torotrak to evaluate its infinitely variable transmission system lIVT). Initial testing is scheduled to last two years. Torotrak uses rotating discs and thin-film oil technology to vary gear ratios without the need for a torque convertor or clutch. The system is said to be able to take the torque loadings needed for LGVs.
