On a recent trip to the sun-drenched Greek island of Rhodes, one of The Hawk's correspondents stayed in the ancient coastal town of Lindos. Here, the streets are so narrow that motorised vehicles are banned but you can hitch a ride by donkey taxi up the steep hill to the Acropolis which dominates the town. The one exception to the rule is that tourists' luggage is transported to holiday accommodation by these interestingly makeshift motorbike-based pickups. Stability isn't their strong point so be sure to lock your suit cases before waving them goodbye from the coach. No one wants to see your smalls despoiling the lanes of such a beautiful and historic town,
