• AU Bull, one of the country's largest independent waste hauliers, is being investigated by the Health & Safety Executive after a worker had an arm ripped off in an accident at its Mitcham headquarters.
The man was taken to St George's hospital in Tooting, south London following an accident involving a conveyor belt last Friday (6 October).
Hospital staff have been asked not to reveal the name of the inured worker at his own request; he is understood to have worked for the firm for around six months.
This is the second time the company has been on the end of an investigation by the HSE. In January 1998 it was fined for failing to ensure the safety of its employees after an employee was crushed to death under the wheels of a 17-tonner.
A spokesman for ASi.J Bull declined to oomment ahead of the investigation's findings, except to say that the victim was not from Kosovo, as had been reported in the local press.
