DAF HAS teamed up with engineering giant Corus to produce a crash simulation model designed to improve road safety.
The Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) model is expected to enhance simulation techniques, reducing the current reliance on physical crash testing. This will cut the time and cost of vehicle development.
Corus has used data from Daf and the CAE model to develop a high containment barrier system for CVs; Daf will use the CAE model to help develop its next generation of vehicles.
Though CAE is nothing new for truck manufacturers. Corus believes this joint model is a step forward that will make road architecture easier to design and safer.
Corns would welcome approaches from other manufacturers as this would improve the model's effectiveness.
