• A radio system, which is claimed to be more advanced than that in any other ambulance service in Europe and possibly in the world, is now in operation from the new GLC Ambulance Service hq in Waterloo Road, London.
Equipment manufactured and supplied by Storno Ltd of Camberley provides the service with radio coverage for spoken messages over the entire 610 square miles of the GLC area as well as an automatic data system which enables ambulance drivers to make radio reports by push button which will show vehicle status on an illuminated display in the control rc!om. The GLC Ambulance Service, which is the largest of its type in the world and represents a sixth of the ambulance service in England and Wales, estimates that by using the new system three ambulances will be able to complete as much work as five previously.
