• John Dee is to open a major base in the Midlands to service a new contract with an as yet un-named partner starting on 1 May. On the European front, the company is to open an in-house business in Milan.
"What we are trying to do in Italy is mirror the full range of services we offer in the UK," says managing director Alan Potter. "We chose to move on from our existing reciprocal agency agreements because we believe Italy will come to the forefront of distribution quickly and because it is easier to set up a business there than in Germany or France."
John Dee has recently taken over a home delivery contract for Electrolux subsidiary Tricity Domestic Appliances from now defunct Chart Elect Direct of Northampton.
The company has applied for BS5750 approval on its warehousing operation. Potter says he wants all 10 companies in the group to earn British Standards Institution approval by the end of the year.
