• Troubled Inverness Traction has been bought by a locally based operator, Alexander (North-east), which was formed late last year by four former senior employees of Northern Scottish Omnibuses.
The deal safeguards the jobs of the 32 staff but puts Inverness Traction into liquidation — Alexander will take over staff and vehicles and will main
tain existing services, but has refused to take on IT's debts.
IT managing director Malcolm Vaughan, who launched a bitter attack on Highland Omnibus which, he claimed, had run IT off the road, (CM 6-12 April), has been taken on as divisional manager of the operation for Alexander. "At least everyone has got a job. There is a future here now," he says.
