• Operators running tractive units registered after 1 April should ensure that their trailers have been modified to avoid brake failure.
These tractive units must be built to comply with the EC directive 85/647 on self-sealing airbrake couplings.
Trailers should have the usual C/CA-type male connectors for the emergency and auxilliary lines.
The plug's valve lifter can be seen down the centre of the female coupling, thus providing a quick check on whether the trailer has been modified.
