PRE-CHRISTMAS thieves stole almost 2300,000 worth of malt whisky from a Hertfordshire haulier last week.
The haul included bottles of the Islay malt Bowrnore. Police have not named the haulier but say a Bowmore spokeswoman says this is the first time the distiller has suffered such a large loss.
Christmas booze was also stolen in Dublin when an unmarked tractor slipped through security and hauled a trailer containing E46,000 worth of beer and stout from a distribution site on Victoria Quay. The haul included 360 kegs of Guinness and Budweiser and 90 kegs of Carlsberg; police are studying CCTV records of the area.
