holder of an AL.pattern arc-welding plant can be unpleasant or dangerous, because of the relatively high voltage and the fact that alternating current has a freezing effect on the muscles of the operator.
A safety device, which is now -being produced by Murex Welding Processes, Ltd., Waltham Cross, Harts, eliminates all -dagger when handling the electrode or holder without interference with the weld. The device is introduced in the secondary circuit of the transformer between the transformer or -choke and the electrode bolder When the weld is completed and the arc broken, a timed relay comes into operation, which breaks the relay at, .cuit of 8O-100 volts and introduces an auxiliary circuit of 30 volts. When the electrode has been changed and it is desired to continue welding, the electrode is touched to the work in the usual manner This causes the .auxiliary eincuit to close the relay and the full welding voltage and current are immediately available. The arc may then be drawn and the weld continued.
Functioning of the device is fully automatic and does not require any special technique or manipulation on the part of the operator. The device Is compact and may be attached to the set or treated as a portable or wall mounting.
