• Hauliers still using old analogue mobile telephones are being asked to switch to new digital hand-held mobiles because the phone companies want to change to an entirely digital system. Phone company Cellnet calculates there might be as many as 12,000 of its vehicle-based phones—some of the first on the market in the eighties— immtiniktii.pridresv--.• still in use.
Operators using the old phones are being offered free digital models in exchange because the company, along with its main competitor VodaFone, is slowly switching the number of air lines these phones use to the digital network.
Anyone still using an analogue phone shoufd contact their airtime provider who will offer them a free digital unit and connect them to a tariff of their choice, says Cellnet.
