One group reported to be beavering away at the problem with some relish is Transport 2000. Mick Hamer, its enthusiastic spokesman, told CM last week that Transport 2000
had been -waiting 13 years for this day.
It's that kind of enthusiasm we can do without; it carries undertones of "let's get our hands on them. Why do I say so?
Transport 2000 is a railway pressure group openly opposed to road transport. Not only Mick Hamer's enthusiasm is running fast, but so is his tongue. Thirteen years ago we still had carriers' licensing so 0 licences were not then an issue. Thirteen years ago Transport 2000 was not around, except in the form of British Rail, NUR and ASLEF. Thirteen years ago British Rail objected almost automatically to nearly every A or B licence application.
I'm sure the review committee will have heard all this before, but to make sure the members have it up to date I'm sending them this week's CM. We are also interested parties.
