CLAIMED to be unlike any other small ride-on sweeper, the Melford S2i40R utilizes the su tion principle to. lift the debris. This is said to be more effective than the cylindric brush pick-up system because it penetrates to the bottom of crevices, works in a weathers on all types of material • and has unimpaired efficiency when on the move.
This machine employs two identical but independent Reliant 750cc (45cuin) fourcylinder, overhead valve aluminium engines which produce 23kW (32bhp) at 5,500rpm — one for driving and one for sweeping.
The brushes placed each side of the suction nozzle, driven hydraulically, can sweep a path 1.8m (6ft) wide and are protected by crash bars allowing a sweep, close to the obstruction, without the risk of damage to the brushes.
A 4.6m x 150mm (15ft x 6in) heavy-duty wander-hose is included in the basic equipment package and is intended to deal with litter which inevitably accumulates in otherwise inaccessible corners.
The large hopper with 1.12cum (40cuft) capacity can be tipped for quick and easy discharge. With a total weight of about 1 ton in an unladen condition the sweeper can be used in safety on paved areas Adding to the vehicle's versatility, salt and grit spreading and snow clearing attachments, together with the heated cab, make it a true all-weather day or night machine.
