• West Mercia Police are warning drivers not to park up for the night on deserted laybys along the M54 in Staffs following a spate of load thefts in the early hours.
The section of the motorway around Junction 3 at the Tong Interchange with the A41 turnoff is particularly vulnerable, with seven loads worth £200,000 being stolen from LGVs in the past year
In the latest raid a fortnight ago £19,200worth of electrical transformers and adaptors were stolen: police think the
same or associated gangs are involved. The attacks take place in the early hours by slashing curtainsiders or cutting back seals with bolt croppers.
