)PERATO RS HAVE been varnecl to keep an eye out for a raudster who approaches compaies posing as a truck driver, before aaking off with thousands of ounds worth of fuel cards.
The man, who police believe as been pulling the same scam )r the past three or four years, is /anted by five police forces round the country. It is thought at he might even be working as truck driver at the moment, though attempts to trace him have so far proved fruitless.
John Kendall, for haulage contractor Sandy BruceTrucking,says his company fell victim to the scam and lost almost £1,600 when a driver absconded with a fuel card. He reckons the man may also be working with someone else.
"He came here looking for a job and he seemed pretty sound with good experience," Kendall reports. "We were desperate for people to drive at the time. It was last minute, we took a gamble and it backfired."
PC Andy Foster of the Sussex police believes the perpetrator is currently living in the Staffordshire area. He describes the man as a 45-year-old white male with a stocky build. He is around 5ft 9in tall with straight, dark. collarlength hair and a side parting.
