• Jackson Transport (Ossett) and its sole director, Alan Jackson, have been charged with manslaughter after a 21year-old mechanic died when a toxic chemical leaked as a road tanker was being prepared for cleaning.
The charges follow a joint investigation by West Yorkshire Police and the Health & Safety Executive, James Hodgson, from Horbury, Wakefield, died on 9 May last year after inhaling a chemical used to make paint as he worked on the tanker which was parked in Jackson's yard near Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
The HSE is taking action against the company and Jackson, of Thornhill Road, Middlestown, Wakefield, for alleged breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
In a joint statement the HSE and the Crown Prosecution Service say: "These charges allege that the company failed to ensure the safety of employees and that this alleged failure was due to Mr Jackson's neglect."
The case will be heard at Wakefield Magistrates on 5 September.
