TRAILER DEALER SDC Northern has moved into the used van business. It is retailing ex-BT light commercials from a site at Scotch Comer, North Yorks.
"It came about because we successfully disposed of 150 curtainsider trailers for the company," says managing director Rod Pybus.
"As a consequence we were asked if we'd like to dispose of some vans too. BT typically has around 1,000 light commercials it wants to get rid of at any one time.
"We're talking about Ford Fiestas and Transits and Vauxhall Vivams as well as other vehicles," he continues.
"A number of the vans have up to £1 ,400-worth of extras on them," he says. "Some of them are no more than a year old, some are up to five years old, and in certain cases they've done no more than 15,41X) miles.
"That's very different to a lot of the ex-rentalfleet vans you see on used pitches," says Pybus."Often they've been to the moon and hack."
The van venture is starting in a modest way—"were selling about two a week at present"— but he believes it will grow,
