4 A FURTHER concession to the nvironmental lobby, the Govmment is now proposing to ave all heavy goods vehicles, icluding foreign lorries running 1 Britain, fitted with sideuards.
While all lorries over 32.5 3nnes will have to have sideuards fitted by October, 1 this ear, the Government is now cirulating proposals for all (abides over 3.5 tonnes gross to le fitted with sideguards if built fter April 1, 1983, and first used fter October 1 next year.
A Department of Transport pokesman confirmed that this would include foreign lorries iperating in Britain at over 32.5 Dnnes, once weights are inreased. Some interesting times e ahead for enforcement officI's at ferry terminals.
