German powder tanker manufacturer Feldbinder is contemplating setting up a factory in the UK. The move is part of a global programme which has already seen plants established in South Africa and South Korea, It reflects the growing importance of the British market to the company—and the growing significance of export sales. They've risen from 4% of business six years ago to over 35% today.
Almost unknown in Britain when it started operations here in January 1989, Feldbinder has sold some 500 tankers here over the past eight years, says UK representative Graham Livermore.
Four cement tankers with SAF's latest 5K Intraax axles are about to go into service with Turners of Soham. "In the past we've had problems with recession and sterling going up and down, but the strong pound is making things easier for us now," Livermore says. "From the order viewpoint, it's looking good."
