• St John Ambulance has acquired a new Mitsubishi Canter 35 to provide first aid support across London. The 3.5-tonne Canter joins two similar vehicles already operating in the capital.
Andrew Wigley, a St John Ambulance volunteer, says: "The box body is perfect for transporting the extra equipment we use to help set up treatment stations at a wide range of public events. It can carry all the spare stretchers, bandages and blankets needed to cover any eventuality, yet because it's a 3.5-tonne vehicle our volunteers can drive it on their standard licences."
The charity's two other Canter-based trucks have played key roles in supporting St John Ambulance volunteers at the city's biggest events of the past few years, including the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Queens Mother's funeral and the 2002 London Marathon.
