BRITISH CAR Auctions (BCA) reported a 12% rise in vehicles receiving pre-auction preparation in 2007 on the previous year.
Leading the way are corporate sellers involved in contract hire, fleet and finance. Duncan Ward, UK business development manager for BCA , says remarketing rules for vans are no different than for cars proper preparation and good presentation are vital.
'Competition is getting tougher because more corporate volume vendors are choosing auctions. The vendor must ensure the vehicles' condition is commensurate with its age and mileage, and pre-sale preparation and appropriate -trade name deletion are critical to this," he says.
Operators selling vehicles after using the Smart Preparation system are getting back the cost threefold at auction.
"Trade name deletion adds value to the seller," says Ward. "There is also a specific need for livery to be removed in the case of security and courier firms. With the now-commonplace use of vinyl stickers to brand vehicles, trade-name deletion can be conducted to the very highest standards, but if it is not done correctly it can actually devalue the vehicle."
