by Bryan Jarvis • Hamburg-based tanker manufacturer Feldbinder has purchased one of its greatest UK-based rivals, Metalair-Filliat of Sutton Bridge near Spalding.
The company will be known as MetalairFeldbinder and will continue to build silo tankers and containers. A planned investment in new manufacturing equipment will boost its production capacity and the Lincolnshire firm will also start building liquid tankers.
Feldbinder's UK sales manager, Graham Livermore, says that the 102 jobs of the MetalairFeldbinder workforce are safe. In fact, once the proposed restructuring is complete, the workforce will be increased.
The managing director of the combined company is Chris Anspack, former managing direc tor of Metalair-Filliat.
Feldbinder has produced around 8,500 vehicles since 1975; their bestknown UK fleet customer is Rugby Cement, which operates about 80 of its tanker trailers.
