A nimal lover though he is, you would not catch
the Hawk in an embrace with a Monitor lizard. However, Neil Swann has no such qualms. Neil (pictured, right), who works for the Proteus Reptile Rescue Centre in Erdington, is seen with his colleague Peter Heathcote. They have just taken delivery of a new LDV 200 van sponsored by British Car Rental's Birmingham branch, and were glad of it they were when a businessman in Bedfordshire asked them to take a five-foot alligator off his hands. The South American Cayman had been treated like a family pet and slept at the foot of the bed. However, when Peter and Neil arrived this pampered pet forgot its manners and tried to lunch off Peter's arm (he was saved by his gauntlets). The Cayman, christened Amy, is now at the rescue centre in a 500-gallon tank. Let's hope it's got a lid.
