Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE DODGE 300-series range has been extended with the introduction of two new tandem drive rigids — one eight wheeler and one six-wheeler. They are designed C3094 and C2464, the type numbers indicating the gross weight in tons followed by the wheel and drive configuration.

This is the first time that Dodge has had a production eight-wheeler although, in the past, there have been several conversions made to the sixwheeler Dodge 500-Series.

Both models feature the Chrysler BS 16 six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine which produces 159kW (213bhp) at .2,200rpm from a capacity of 9.3 litres (570cuin). The maximum torque is 825Nm (6081bft) at 1,400rpm.

The clutch is ot the single dry plate type with a diameter of 380mm (15in). In contrast to the 300-Series tractive unit which uses a Fuller constantmesh gearbox, the rigids are fitted with an eight-speed synchromesh Chrysler rangechange unit with an overdrive top. At the rear the axles have a design capacity of 11 tonnes although under C and U 'regulations this is limited to 9.15 tonnes. The single-speed axles are fitted with inter-axle diff locks and are available with a choice of ratios — 6.83 or 5.85 to!.

Both models feature full air brakes with spring brakes for parking. The eight-wheeler system gives a frictional area of 9,222sqcm (1,429sqin) with 6,722sqcm (1,042sqin) for the six wheeler.

Fully laden in both cases, this gives an equivalent area of 302sqcm/tonne (47.6sqin/ton) and 275sqcm/ton (43.4sqin/ ton) respectively.

The new Dodges will not be available until March of next year and the prices are not expected to be announced until then. Both carry the normal 12 months unlimited mileage warranty plus the second 12 months unlimited mileage cover on the drive line corn ponents as on existing Dodge 300 Series models.

As on the tractive unit, the cab can be tilted hydraulically to a maximum angle of 60 deg for engine access. A driver's .?uspension seat is standard, equipment.

Two wheelbases are available with each model. The eight-wheeler can be specified at either 5.21 or 6.38m (17ft lin or 20 ft 1 lin) with a chassis cab weight of 7.63 tonnnes (7tons 11.cwt). For the C2464, the wheelbase choice lies between 4.51 and 5.68m (14ft 9in and 18ft 7in) with a kerb weight of 7.03 tonnes (6tons 18cwt).

Power steering by ZF and 300 litre (66ga1) fuel tanks are standard equipment.
