BORDERS Regional Council, which has been bedevilled with transport problems during the past four years, has won its fight to retain the joint National Travel (West) and Eastern Scottish Edinburgh to Liverpool bus service.
Instead of serving Langholm, Hawick and Galashiels, with a combined population of nearly 35,000, the operators had applied to the Traffic Commissioners to run the service via Hamilton and Glasgow from October to May. The application was withdrawn after objections form the regional council.
It said that the rerouting would remove the only remaining day-time long distance service through the Central Borders 'during the winter.
