• Crane Fruehauf has shut its service and maintenance depot at South Mimrns, near the All M25 junction, because there is no room to expand.
Most of its 25 staff are being transferred to Barking, where Crane Fruehauf has a parts and sales centre, and where it is negotiating for new premises to replace South Minims.
Meanwhile, an outside bid for American trailer and components giant Fruehauf, which owns 40% of Crane Fruehauf in this country, is unlikely to affect UK operations. Even if the bid by Varity Corporation is successful, Crane Fruehauf says management in the US would be likely to buy the trailer operation there.
