• Dublin Bus plans to introduce a new type of ticket machine to promote pre-paid journeys and reduce the number of assaults on drivers.
The company's board has approved the scheme which will allow 120 retailers in Dublin to sell the tickets. The company hopes that this will reduce the amount of cash on buses and prevent robberies, but the scheme has yet to be approved by the Government.
Dublin Bus has also installed protective screens on its buses to protect staff, who have recently been refusing to work later than 22.00hrs at weekends because of the rising number of driver attacks.
The drivers are now back on normal services, which run until 23.30hrs, and union representives will meet with management next month.
