SIR REGINALD WILSON is to retire as chairman and from the board of Transport Development Group on December 31. He will be succeeded by Mr J. B. Duncan, who has been managing director of the group since 1960 and was formerly with Spurling Ltd, a TDG company which he joined in 1953.
It is understood that Sir Reginald, who joined the TDG in 1970 from the National Freight Corporation, where he was also chairman, will not be disappearing from the transport scene.
Mr J. D. Lockhart, who has been a director of the group since 1971, and md of the group holding company in Scotland, since 1969, has been appointed assistant md.
In an interim financial statement for the six months ended June 20, TDG shows a 22 per cent increase in pretax profit from £5.74m to £7.02m. The group does not anticipate any slow-down in its trading despite gloomy market predictions for road haulage generally.
During the period under review the group acquired W. Lawson Russell (Transport) Ltd, engaged mainly in transport of grain to Islay and bulk whisky from there to bonded warehouses.
