FODENS' exhibits at the Motor Show will be led by improvements to the S10, according to marketing manager Richard Phillips.
He told CM that the most major of these is the adoption of a single piece windscreen, a revised dash layout and a new front lift-up grille, to give better access to the heaters and other daily service items.
For economy, the Fleetmaster tractive units are being fitted with the Overdrive Fuller RTO 9509B gearbox and a Rockwell RM180 rear axle with a 4.625 to 1 ratio.
Improved electrics, new indicator lights set in restyled corners of the cab, and smaller detachable front quarter panels are cab changes. But there will still be a few of the old shape cab coming through until after the show.
Last of the cab changes is an air scoop which allows ducted air to be directed by the driver within his cab. Fodens will be showingtwo Fleetmaster tractive units — one with a Rolls Royce 265L engine, the other a Cummins NTE 290 unit — and two Haulmasters. The Haulmasters are a VT504 six wheeler and a Gardner 6LXC-engined eight wheeler.
In response to CM's criticism during road tests, a kerb mirror is fitted to the nearside on all Fleetmaster and Haulmasters and the clutch pedal angle has been changed. Additionally, the clutch is hydraulically operated to reduce pedal effort on Cummins and Rolls engined versions.
