FLYWHEEL location dowels incorporated in the flywheel end of the crankshaft on Detroit Diesel 71-Series engines have been deleted.
Because of this, extreme care should be exercised when removing or installing flywheels on these engines. It is recommended that during removal two suitable guide studs are used to support the flywheel until a suitable lifting device is attached.
